We recently reached out to the King and asked if we could get his thoughts on the upcoming election in the U.S. Here is some of our talk with him on the subject.
Tomorrow in our surrounding macro early voting opens up for a number of offices. But the big one on everyone's mind is the office of President of the United States of America. It feels to me that a trend that has been developing in the past few elections for president are that they have become very contested. This one is no exception. In fact I am of the opinion this election has been contested to the point of belligerency on both parties. I am also under the belief that the influence of social media has greatly influenced, or even caused much of this. I feel this will be the new normal for quiet awhile now that social media is a part of our everyday lives.
But you wanted to get my thoughts on the U.S. election. An election is an absolute vital part of a republic, which is what America is. The U.S. is not a democracy, it is a republic and a republic can not truly function and evolve, or live its life, on it ever swinging pendulum with out fair and impartial elections. The key words on that I express to you are, fair and impartial.
I do think that a lot of people get caught up in voting. The popularity of a candidate etc. They forget to stop and look at the issues and the stance of each candidate. It may very well be that you do not like a certain candidate but you agree with their stance on most of the issues. But because you don't like them you don't vote for them. That does not always make sense to me. You are voting also for the issues and to protect them, eliminate them, enhance them etc. If you go against that because you don't like them, what are you saying? Where are your principles? You have to be able to separate yourself from the candidate and look at their track record or if they are a aspiring for a first term, their stance on the issues. I feel like 9 out 10 voters don't do this anymore. They are all wrapped up in the election story and bickering if you will. They do not know or think to look at the totality of everything and then make an educated choice.
But still, even as a member of a micronation, you are still a citizen and member of your macro. Just as I am a member of the Muscogee "Creek" Indian Nation, I am still a U.S. citizen. Just as you are a member of your city, county, and state you still are a member of the larger "federal" nation. So once you understand you can have duel membership even within a single culture or society, then you can explore why it is important to vote. To me voting is the very direct means of expressing your dissent or acceptance of your government, to your government, with out actually having to shed blood. Yes I will be voting, in fact I will be voting tomorrow during the early voting time slots. So yes, voting is necessary and to dismiss it is to say you care not about your own self value or interest. By those words I say, I will leave you with some various influential quotes on voting.
"Every election is determined by the people who show up." — Larry Sabato
"If liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government to the utmost." — Aristotle
"One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." — Plato ( The King notes this is one of his favorites)
"Bad officials are elected by good citizens who do not vote." - George Jean Nathan
"Someone struggled for your right to vote. Use it." — Susan B. Anthony
"Turn on to politics, or politics will turn on you." — Ralph Nader
I can not implore enough to you the importance of voting, but ultimately we must reach this decision alone and to ourselves. Since the first moment I could vote, I always have and I always will. That's how important it is.
This concludes our report on the words from the King.
In other news around the Kingdom of Fristehen:
The third night of the ice storm brought more precipitation and added extra stress on the trees. In our macro region the estimated number of people without power is now over 300,000. The power in the Kingdom began to surge and flicker about 03:00 and did so off and on for about an hour. Just after the 04:00 hour the Kingdom lost all power and the power remained off for about 6 hours. The power then was on for about 2 hours and the Kingdom has had no power since approx. 11:00 this morning. All non essential services and business are still ordered closed by the King. Debris is everywhere from trees and downed utility and power poles. Many road are impassable.
Current Conditions:

Hi today 36F, Low 34F
Wind Speed Average 7mph
Air Quality 16 - Good
Sunrise 07:50 Sunset 18:40
99% humidity 29.88 Hg in Pressure
We really need as much thawing to occur today as possible because tomorrow a front moves in from the south and it will bring winds with it. If you still have ice laden trees under weight and you add wind, you get damage and power outages. Let's all stay strong, united with each other and pray to our Lord.
